In the End

For just one moment,
if the wind is just right,
I can feel old memories calming me.
I lay down, in the furrows and boughs
of cold misfortune.
Having been lost and exhumed,
and with a sense of how the stars unfold,
as hands pull at me in until I follow;
then their sweet letting go,
I cannot recall any time but now,
any way but down, any place but here...
I let you smother me.
I let you take me home.
Don't let them uncover me.
Keep me safe in this hole.
